Neo-SSPX “brands” Archbishop Lefebvre’s 1974 Declaration

The neo-SSPX has lately been selecting quotes from Archbishop Lefebvre that show him favorable to an accord with Rome (see: http://christusvincit.clicforum.com/t924-Evolution-de-la-Porte-Latine.htm ), in order to justify their dealings with Rome, when in fact, at the end of his life, the Archbishop didn’t trust Rome anymore and put the condition that he wouldn’t negotiate with the authorities there until Rome had returned to Tradition first.

In Menzingen’s latest communiqué, which came out yesterday on the SSPX website, we see the neo-SSPX again manipulating the Archbishop’s words.

This time they’ve altered his 1974 Declaration!

First of all, they refer to it as only a “statement,” rather than a declaration.

Second, they omit the crucial words, [“By doing this...”] which change the whole meaning of the last paragraph of his declaration.

Third, they change the words in the last paragraph itself:

- The Archbishop said in his declaration that by holding fast to traditional Rome and refusing Modernist Rome, “…we are assured of remaining faithful to the Roman Catholic Church and to all the successors of Peter, and of being the fideles dispensatores mysteriorum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi in Spiritu Sancto.”

- The communiqué of the neo-SSPX changed the paragraph to “…we are convinced that we shall remain faithful to the Roman Catholic Church, to all the successors of Peter, and shall be the ‘fideles dispensatores mysteriorum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi in Spiritu Sancto’ [‘faithful dispensers of the mysteries of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Ghost’].”

See for yourselves.

Excerpt :

..On November 21 of this year, the anniversary of the statement made in 1974 by Abp. Marcel Lefebvre, we can only recall the profession of faith of the founder of the Society of Saint Pius X:

‘With God’s grace, the help of the Virgin Mary, of Saint Joseph, and of Saint Pius X, we are convinced that we shall remain faithful to the Roman Catholic Church, to all the successors of Peter, and shall be the ‘fideles dispensatores mysteriorum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi in Spiritu Sancto’ [‘faithful dispensers of the mysteries of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Ghost’].”

Archbishop Lefebvre in his 1974 Declaration:

By doing this, with the grace of God and the help of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and that of St. Joseph and St. Pius X, we are assured of remaining faithful to the Roman Catholic Church and to all the successors of Peter, and of being the fideles dispensatores mysteriorum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi in Spiritu Sancto. Amen.”
